Supreme Court Grants Biden’s Request?
Here’s what happened…
The Supreme Court has just decided to delay their decision on whether or not to allow President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan to pass. Instead the Supreme Court will now hear full oral arguments regarding the matter.
According to NBC, the Supreme Court has said that they will hear arguments in February and make a decision after that.
As for right now any form of mass student loan forgiveness remains fully blocked.
Almost immediately after the midterm elections, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked President Biden’s plan to forgive student loan debt. Then the Biden Administration reached out to the Supreme Court to step in because the 8th Circuit Court’s decision “leaves millions of economically vulnerable borrowers in limbo, uncertain about the size of their debt and unable to make financial decisions with an accurate understanding of their future repayment obligations.”
Initially six states, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas and South Carolina, sued President Biden over the matter and now another 17 states have backed them.
It is unclear what will happen moving forward however one thing is for certain, student loan debt will not be forgiven at least until February.
