Airline Warns: Travel Doomsday Ahead
Be prepared for chaos.
If you are planning on traveling this summer get ready for some possibly bad news. Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci warned that travelers can expect for dozens of flights being canceled on the daily due to the severe pilot shortage facing the entire airlines industry at the moment.
According to Fox News, “The month of May will continue to be choppy,” Minicucci explained on video.
Furthermore, Minicucci explained that a number of airlines have offered several new incentives to encourage more workers to come onboard, however they are still struggling.
Minicucci explained that their own airline has 63 fewer pilots than they need since April.
“By the time we caught this error, April and May schedules were bid on by our pilots and flight attendants, making it impossible to sufficiently adjust schedules to avoid cancellations,” Minicucci added. “This error is having a continued ripple effect for May.”
This isn’t just a problem facing Alaska Airlines, most airlines operating in the United States are facing similar problems.
