Undocumented Workers Getting Unemployment?
This is shocking.
New reports indicate that in the state of New York there are hundreds of calls every month from from people who want to receive financial assistance from the Excluded Worker Fund. The Excluded Worker Fund is a program for undocumented workers and others who are unable to get government financial relief during the pandemic.
According to Yahoo News, Diana Sanchez of Catholic Charities Community Services says the calls just don’t stop. The program was created by New York lawmakers and former disgraced Governor Andrew Cuomo in March.
Sadly, there is one major problem. The initial $2.1 billion which was set aside for the fund has already ran out however calls keep coming in and there is no money left to give to these struggling people.
The one-time payout of up to $15,600 for these financially struggling people is gone and Sanchez stated, “You really feel bad because it’s out of your hands.”
Now some lawmakers and Americans are calling for the program to be funded once again with another $3 billion in tax payer money.
When media reached out to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a spokesperson responded, “With session now underway, the Governor will continue to work with legislators, community and advocacy partners to support immigrant communities and vulnerable New Yorkers.”
Sadly for Democrats however, Gov. Hochul did not mention any plans to allocate more money for the Excluded Worker Fund in her governor’s budget priorities and Democrats are furious.
“Excluded workers have called on Governor Hochul to end the gaps in our safety net once and for all. Instead, they got band-aids,”Fund Excluded Workers Coalition Coordinator Bianca Guerrero stated.
