Government Spending Reaches All Time High
It is now known that Senate passed a massive $1.5 trillion package Thursday night that will continue to fund the federal government through September and will also send an additional $14 billion to aid Ukraine as they continue to fight off the Russian invasion.
According to Politico, this final package finally solidifies the fresh budgets Democrats have been looking for since Trump left office and is intended to end the string of spending patches that kept federal agencies in business since the new fiscal year which started in October.
Both Republican and Democrat leaders have called this newly passed legislation as a win for their parties. Top Republicans are happy with this package because they were able to secure $782 billion for national defense which is a 6% gain compared to their traditional spending on national defense.
Democrat Chuck Schumer called the new package “the strongest, boldest and most significant government funding package we’ve seen in a long time.”
Republican Senator John Kennedy wasn’t too happy with the package and explained, “It’s the same thing that happens: Schumer and McConnell and Pelosi and McCarthy sit down and slap something together and tell us to take it or leave it … We’ve seen this repeatedly. It’s like ‘Halloween 15.’”
