Pelosi Breaks Silence On Infrastructure Bill
Here’s what Pelosi had to say…
Recently, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared to be optimistic following all the Democratic infighting regarding President Biden’s spending bills and said that the progressive Democrats are still committed backing the legislation.
This comes as a surprise since many progressive such as Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and others have suggested that they were not willing to compromise unless both bills were voted on together at the same time.
According to Fox Business, Speaker Pelosi released a letter saying, “As you know by now, the House will postpone the vote on the [Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework]. The good news is that most Members who were not prepared for a yes vote today have expressed their commitment to support the BIF. I thank the overwhelming number of House Democrats who support both the BIF and the Build Back Better Act. It is both heartening and impressive to observe the strength of Members’ engagement in the discussion.”
Progressives have said that they will vote until they have the legislative text and it is “fully assessed” so that no “surprising changes” can be made last minute after the moderates have gained their support.
Biden’s Press Secretary Jen Psaki said she was confident that both bills would be passed together.
