GOP Flips, Supports Biden’s IRS
Why do Republicans always chicken out?
Republican Senator Thom Tillis shocked the GOP when he came out and admitted that he fully intends to support the confirmation of President Biden’s nominee Danny Werfel to become the head of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
According to The Hill. During Werfel’s confirmation hearing, Senator Tillis said he supported President Biden’s new nominee during a conversation about the IRS’s new funding boost which was provided by Biden and the Democrats.
Tillis said, “I intend to support your confirmation” during a back and forth about how Werfel plans to spend the additional $80 billion in funding that Democrats decided to provide to the IRS via the Inflation Reduction Act.
Republican Sen. John Cornyn later criticized the Democrats and said, “This is sort of typical of Washington, D.C. We appropriate the money and ask for the plan later, rather than ask for the plan and say, ‘How much money do you need to actually implement the plan?’”
Democrats are promising the American people that the whopping $80 billion that is going to be given to the IRS will result in only fair tax treatment however a number of people have their doubts.
Werfel promised Republican lawmakers that he and the IRS will not target middle and lower class Americans saying, “If poor people are more likely to be audited than wealthy, that is something that I think potentially degrades public trust and needs to be addressed within the tax system.”
