Biden’s Economy Flops, Americans Jobless
Nothing seems to get better under Biden.
Last week, there was an unexpected increase in the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits, reaching its highest level in three months.
According to Fox, data published on Wednesday by the Labor Department found that there was an increase in initial claims for the week ended March 4. The figures rose to 211,000 from 190,000 recorded a week earlier, reaching the highest level since the end of December. Despite the increase, the current figure remains below the pre-pandemic average of 218,000 claims observed in 2019.
For the week ended February 25, continuing claims for unemployment benefits, which are filed by Americans who are receiving benefits for consecutive weeks, rose slightly to 1.72 million. This is an increase of 69,000 from the previous week, but is still lower than the number of people collecting unemployment benefits a year ago, which was almost 1.9 million.
The Federal Reserve’s efforts to increase interest rates and stabilize the economy are being complicated by the unresolved puzzle of the labor market. Although job openings remain at a record high, layoffs have been increasing, and jobless claims are also on the rise. In February, private-sector hiring was faster than anticipated, but the overall situation remains complex.
The officials at the central bank have indicated that they anticipate an increase in unemployment due to the rise in interest rates, which may cause a reduction in spending by consumers and businesses. During two days of congressional testimony, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell acknowledged that job losses are highly probable.
According to the projections made during the central bank’s December meeting, officials anticipate an increase in unemployment from the current rate of 3.5% to 4.5% by the end of next year.
President Biden’s economy just can’t recover. Americans are starting to think nothing will improve until he is gone.
