Banks Blocked From Tracking Americans
This is a major win for gun owners!
President Biden and the Democrats want to single out gun owners in America and thankfully Americans who love their 2nd Amendment rights are now more safe.
The initiative by Visa Inc., MasterCard Inc., and Discover Inc. to monitor transactions made by cardholders at gun shops has been suspended.
According to Fox, the payment processing corporations announced on Thursday the discontinuation of their efforts to implement the International Organization for Standardization’s fresh merchant category code (MCC) for establishments dealing in firearms and ammunition.
Activists who advocate for gun control have endorsed the implementation of a new code that would highlight transactions involving firearms, contending that it could aid in detecting questionable behavior that may lead to mass shootings. Conversely, advocates for gun ownership object to the proposal, arguing that it infringes on the Second Amendment and privacy rights.
senior vice president of communications for Mastercard Seth Eisen explained, “Today, there are bills advancing in several states related to the use of this new code. If passed, the result will be an inconsistency in how this ISO standard could be applied by merchants, issuers, acquirers and networks. It’s for that reason that we have decided to pause work on the implementation of the firearms-specific MCC.”
According to MasterCard, the lack of detailed information on specific purchases that Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) provide makes them insufficient in addressing the broader issues related to the contentious gun debate. The tracking system would only keep tabs on the total amount spent at a firearm store, without specifying the exact items purchased. This implies that an individual purchasing safety or hunting gear would be lumped into the same category as someone buying a rifle or ammunition.
