Biden To Forgive Student Loan Debt
Millions of Americans could soon have their debt wiped away.
In a bold new statement, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) recently told activists that President Biden and his top advisers are now opening up to the idea of forgiving student loan debt for millions of Americans.
Schumer even went as far saying that they were closer “than ever before” to make the plan a reality.
According to The Hill, Schumer said, “I have talked personally to the president on this issue a whole bunch of times. I have told him that this is more important than just about anything else that he can do on his own.”
“We’re making progress folks. We are making progress. The White House seems more open to it than ever before,” Schumer added.
Schumer has argued that when the current pause on federal student loan repayment is lifted, Americans will have to back to paying an average of nearly $400 per month on their student loan debt and it is simply unacceptable.
“That is so much money. How does anybody live knowing every month I got to pay this $400?” Schumer said. “So the pause has stopped that, but make no mistake about it. This pause isn’t going to stay forever and the canceling of student debt is the way to go.”
