Is Biden making a mistake?
President Biden and his administration are now planning to end another Trump policy which regulated fuel standards for cars and light trucks.
According to Breitbart, Biden’s new plan will force auto manufactures to only make vehicles that are able to travel an average 55 miles per gallon by the year 2026. This move is an increase from Trump’s policy which required them to increase the average to 43 mpg by 2026.
It’s important to note that the current standard is 40 miles per gallon.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) referred to the move by Biden as one of the harshest standards enforced in U.S. history.
EPA Administrator Michael Regan stated, “We are setting robust and rigorous standards that will aggressively reduce the pollution that is harming people and our planet—and save families money at the same time.”
This comes as a very big problem for auto manufactures because they believe they do not have enough time to transition away from heavily gas-dependent vehicles.
