Biden And IRS Back Down
They know they made a mistake.
After receiving major blowback from the American people, President Biden and the IRS is now abandoning the plan to force Americans to submit pictures of themselves via facial recognition software to do certain things regarding their taxes.
According to Axios, the IRS chose to abandon the decision after Americans expressed concerns that the information that they would collect could be used for other purposes.
The IRS was planning on using the third-party facial recognition company ID.me.
“The IRS announced it will transition away from using a third-party service for facial recognition to help authenticate people creating new online accounts,” the IRS said.
IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig explained, “The I.R.S. takes taxpayer privacy and security seriously, and we understand the concerns that have been raised.”
“Everyone should feel comfortable with how their personal information is secured, and we are quickly pursuing short-term options that do not involve facial recognition,” he added,
