Americans Can No Longer Afford Breakfast
This is pathetic.
The cost of eggs continues to increase to shocking new levels and relief appears to be nowhere in sight.
According to Fox, the cost of eggs soared in December the most in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
The cost of a carton of 12 eggs increased by an astounding 64% in those 3 states alone. In other states such as Oregon, California and Washington the same quantity of egg increased by 18%.
In the month of November the cost of grocery stores items overall increased 12%. However, the cost of just eggs soared by 49.1% compared to a year ago.
These cost increases are being blamed on rising prices for labor, fuel and animal feed along with a series of outbreaks of bird flu that has resulted in the slaughter of millions of chickens.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) explained, “Reoccurring HPAI [Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza] outbreaks continued to disrupt normal production and marketing patterns into November, negatively impacting export business.”
