White House Unveils New Sanctions

The economy is about to get worse.

While it is too soon to say whether or not this was a bad idea, President Biden’s White House has just announced that they are unveiling a new set of sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin as he continues invading Ukraine.

According to The Hill, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan admitted, “He will join our partners in imposing further sanctions on Russia and tightening the existing sanctions to crack down on evasion and to ensure robust enforcement.”

While Sullivan did not explain what exactly the sanctions will be, it is clear that Russia will retaliate to these sanctions and it will effect the economy even further.

Sullivan further noted that the current sanctions which have already been announced will be “ensuring that there is joint effort to crack down on evasion, sanctions busting, on any attempt by any country to help Russia basically undermine, weaken, or get around the sanctions.”
