Massive Strike Threatens Holiday Season
7 days.
7 days is just how much paid sick leave freight rail workers are demanding for from railroad companies in order to prevent a new strike.
According to NBC, if railroad companies don’t reach an agreement with their workers regarding the 7 days of paid sick leave a possible strike will lead to massive problems for freight transport across the United States and bring major disruptions this holiday season.
President Biden nor the White house have not involved themselves in this matter as of yet however they likely may if an agreement isn’t reached.
This new issue comes just two months after President Biden and Labor Secretary Marty Walsh already had to get involved and brokered a deal that ended a monthslong standoff with the same group.
Railroad workers have had massive dissatisfaction in recent years with railroad companies and now tension have finally spilled over.
Workers have complained that their companies have worked them to the brink of exhaustion however the companies responded by pointing out that the workers are paid very well with an average of being $110,000 by 2024.
