Republicans Tell Retired Seniors To Go Back To Work
This was extremely unexpected.
In a move that has sparked outrage from Republican voters, especially senior citizens, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is now endorsing a plan that aims to “coax” seniors out of retirement to help fill the gaps in the American workforce.
According to Salon, “There are a number of innovative ideas I would support,” Johnson said during a tele-town hall.
Johnson then said, “Former Senator Phil Gramm came to the Senate, we were talking about our labor shortage, and one of his suggestions was to coax seniors that could reenter the workforce—don’t charge them payroll tax. They’re not paying it anyway so if they want to get back and earn a few extra bucks, let them start working.”

The Republican Senator’s controversial comments came after he sparked outrage a few weeks ago where he suggested that Social Security and Medicare needed to discretionary rather than mandatory.
Wisconsin’s lieutenant governor fired back at Johnson and said, “Ron Johnson’s solution to the labor shortage: send seniors back to work.”
A group calling themselves the Social Security Works attacked Johnson as well and said, “This is the same senator who wants to turn Social Security into ‘discretionary spending.’ Ron Johnson thinks that working-class Americans don’t deserve to retire. That’s why he’s trying to steal our earned benefits.”
