This Item Goes Missing From Grocery Stores
America depends on this key food.
It now appears that President Biden’s America is dealing with a possible tomato shortage and this spells big trouble for not just ketchup lovers but everyone who deals with products related to tomatoes overall.
According to Fox, farmer with River Vista Farms in Colusa, California, Mitchell Yerxa has explained that it has become very difficult for farmers to produce tomatoes thats to a number of challenges including inflation and droughts.
“It’s going to be a tough year,” Yerxa explained.
President Biden’s inflation along with a tough drought have sent tomato prices through the roof and will possibly lead to a nationwide shortage of tomatoes and products that require tomatoes.
“The number-one thing that we say is that water is the ‘it’ thing when it comes to growing tomatoes — and if you don’t have enough of it, you can’t get the crop you need,” he explained.
“There’s not enough water this year, that’s for sure.”
What’s even worse is that the high cost of fertilizer is adding extra problems to tomato farmers.
Yerxa explained, “California grows 96% of all tomatoes consumed in the U.S. and a quarter of all tomatoes consumed in the world.”
Currently there are only 232 family farms in America that grow tomatoes for the entire population.
