Grocery Tax Suspended For A Year
Some Americans are relieved.
The state of Illinois is now suspending their sales tax on groceries starting July 1st and will keep the tax suspension in place for an entire calendar year.
According to Fox, Illinois will place a pause on its 1% sales and use tax on qualifying items such as foods that are meant to be consumed off the premises of the location from where it is sold meaning places like grocery stores.
The Illinois Department of Revenue said in a statement, “Food sold for consumption off the premises includes grocery items and packaged foods but does not include candy, soft drinks, cannabis-infused foods, and alcohol.”
They further noted that foods which are sold to be consumed at location such as restaurants will not be exempt from tax charges.
