GOP Raising Retirement Age

2024 Republican Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley raised eyebrows after she proposed increasing the retirement age and imposing restrictions on Social Security and Medicare benefits at a public meeting held in Iowa.
According to Newsmax, Haley stated, “The first thing you do is you change the retirement age of the young people coming up so that we can try and have some sort of system for them.”
According to Haley, it is essential to reform entitlement programs because they are heading towards bankruptcy. However, she clarified that the proposed changes would not result in any cuts for senior citizens.
“You reform the entitlements, but you do it in a way that you don’t take anything away from seniors or people who are getting ready to retire. You focus on the new generation, you focus on what’s next,” she added.
CNN reports that former President Donald Trump is urging the GOP to back Social Security and Medicare. During his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, he alleged that some Republicans aim to increase the minimum age for Social Security to 70, 75, or even 80 and reduce Medicare to the point where it becomes unrecognizable.
