Democrat’s New Student Loan Debt Demand
Here’s what happened…
President Joe Biden’s Administration along with the Democrats recently extended the federal student loan payment pause to January of 2022. Meaning students who owed debt for college do not have to pay until January of next year due to the pandemic.
In a recent interview with Yahoo News, Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) said that does not go far enough and called for Biden to cancel the student loan debt.
“We organized and fought to extend the pause on student loan payments — myself, Senator [Elizabeth] Warren, and [Senate Majority] Leader [Chuck] Schumer,” Pressley stated. “And now we have to go further and that is to cancel student debt up to $50,000 with the same authority that President Biden used to extend the pause on payments, to cancel student debt by executive action with the stroke of a pen and mitigate this hurt.”
Not all Democrats are wanting Biden to forgive student loan debt however. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently said that if student loan debt is forgiven is must be from an act of Congress.
