This is insane.
Crime and shoplifting in the Democrat-controlled city of New York has gotten so bad that shopping districts are now being forced to hire K-9s to help prevent shoplifting.
According to Fox, Former NYPD cop Kevin Ward who now works security explained, “We’ve had a lot of complaints. A lot of shoplifting occurs in drugstores. We’re trying to address the issue.”
Businesses are now being forced to hire independent security companies such as 34th Street Partnership which costs somewhere in the “low-five figures monthly”. Things have gotten so bad under Democrat leadership that businesses now how to pay a small fortune to protect their businesses which is technically the responsibility of the police.
Things are actually so bad that Shoplifting in the Midtown South Precinct have surged by nearly 60% since 2021. What’s even worse is that violent retail thefts have more than doubled as well. In 2022 there was 219 robberies compared to 95 robbery incidents in 2021.
“Times Square has a dedicated foot patrol. Penn Station doesn’t. The city needs a dedicated foot patrol in Penn Station similar to Times Square,” Ward later explained.
“Overall crime in the district is up over 100% over two years. There is a correlation with staffing,” he added.
