Billionaire Space Race Gets Ugly
Money fight!
Billionaire Jeff Bezos is now suing NASA after they gave SpaceX’s Elon Musk an exclusive contract with the Human Landing System Program to return Americans to the moon and not his company Blue Origin.
According to Engadget, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has filed a complaint with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims over NASA’s recent handling of the Human Landing System program. The lawsuit comes less than a month after a protest filed by Blue Origin over NASA’s decision to award a contract for the Artemis Lunar Lander to Elon Musk’s SpaceX was dismissed by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO).
Both Bezos’ Blue Origin and Elon Musk’s SpaceX bided contract but NASA ultimately accepted Musk’s $2.9 billion bid compared to Bezos’ $5.9 billion bid.
NASA couldn’t do two contracts with both SpaceX and Blue Origin due to limited funding from Congress.
Blue Origin has argued that the decision from NASA was “fundamentally unfair.”
