New Bill Enforces Four-Day Work Week
Here’s what happened…
A new bill which has been proposed in California by assemblywoman Cristina Garcia is aiming to enforce a four-day work week which is 32 hours per week for businesses that have 500 or more emoployees.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the new AB-2932 bill will force companies to only allow large companies to conduct business 4 days a week for 8 hours per day and the company would have to pay overtime if they work their employees for more than 32 hours.
Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia has insisted that workers will be more productive and have a better work-life balance with a four-day work week compared to a five-day work week.
“We’ve had a five-day workweek since the Industrial Revolution,” Garcia explained, “but we’ve had a lot of progress in society, and we’ve had a lot of advancements. I think the pandemic right now allows us the opportunity to rethink things, to reimagine things.”
Other believe AB-2932 will cost businesses a lot of money and will prevent job growth in the state of California.
