Big Changes For Child Tax Credit
Americans have mixed emotions about this.
Over 36 million families have been receiving monthly payment from through the IRS via the expanded child tax credit since July.
Now, those payments are set to end this weekend and people are concerned.
According to Fox, President Biden and the Democrats decided to expand the child tax credit in early 2021 by tying it to the coronavirus relief package however that expired at the end of 2021.
Low- and middle-income parents were receiving up to $3,000 for every child ages 6 to 17 and $3,600 for every child under age 6.
Now that the child tax credit is set to expire, Democrats are worried it will negatively affect them in the midterm elections. As a result, Democrats including President Biden attempted to extend the child tax credit once again for one more year, however moderate Sen. Joe Manchin killed those chances when he did not support the $1.7 trillion Build Back Better plan.
Following his decision, Manchin stated, “I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I just can’t. I tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there. This is a ‘no’ on this legislation.”
