Biden’s New Plan Following FDA’s Pfizer Approval

Here’s what we know…

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just granted full approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for all people who are sixteen or older.

In a statement provided by Fox Business, Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock said, “The FDA’s approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. While this and other vaccines have met the FDA’s rigorous, scientific standards for emergency use authorization, as the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product.

The FDA also released a tweet acknowledging the new full approval status for the Pfizer vaccine:

Dr. Peter Marks, director of FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research said, “Our scientific and medical experts conducted an incredibly thorough and thoughtful evaluation of this vaccine. We evaluated scientific data and information included in hundreds of thousands of pages, conducted our own analyses of Comirnaty’s safety and effectiveness, and performed a detailed assessment of the manufacturing processes, including inspections of the manufacturing facilities.”

Later adding, “although we approved this vaccine expeditiously, it was fully in keeping with our existing high standards for vaccines in the U.S.”

Currently, 163.9 million people Americans which is almost 50% of the US population has been fully vaccinated.

Both Pfizer and Moderna are set to begin administering COVID-19 booster shots on September 20th, 2021.

Since news of the Pfizer vaccine’s new approval from the FDA, President Joe Biden has urged private business to step up and demand their workers get vaccinated.

Biden stated, “Today I’m calling on more companies…in the private sector to step up the vaccine requirements that will reach millions more people. If you’re a business leader, a non-profit leader, a state or local leader, who has been waiting for full FDA approval to require vaccinations, I call on you now to do that… do what I did last month, requiring employees to get vaccinated or face strict requirements.
