Biden Offering Americans 14,000 Dollars
Here’s what is happening…
President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act is trying to reduce climate change. Now as a way to fight off climate change President Biden’s bill will offer up to $14,000 in rebates and tax credits for Americans who want to upgrade their homes to be more energy-efficient.
According to CBS, These new benefits will lower the cost of home upgrades which can range from installing heat pumps to purchasing electric appliances such as stoves and dryers. The government is hoping this new plan will ultimately lower fossil-fuel emissions.
Senior energy policy advocate Lauren Urbanek explained, “This gives people some very concrete and generous incentives to do that, both in the form of tax credits and direct cash rebates. This is the biggest federal investment in buildings ever, at least one that is specified for climate change.”
NRDC explained that there are two separate rebate programs for Americans:
- The HOMES Rebate Program
- High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA)
The HOMES Rebate program will cover home upgrades for things such as solar panels and new windows that make homes more energy efficient.
The HEEHRA program is aiming to cover upgrades to specific appliance purchases and other upgrades. Some upgrades include up to $8,000 for heat pumps which provide air conditioning and heating as well.
