The 2021 tax filing season has officially began and there are some important things to watch out for. As you may already know the IRS is warning Americans about expected delays due to workers shortages and a number of other problems such as the pandemic.
Here are some important things to remember from CNN if you want to stay ahead of the ball this year.
The filing deadline
The filing deadline is Monday, April 18th, the IRS is asking Americans to get it done as soon as possible this year do to several issues and are also asking people to file electronically if possible.
Don’t be surprised by delays
As already mentioned there is a heavy employee shortage in the IRS and the pandemic is adding to their problems. Expect to experience some delays with this years filing.
Keep an eye out for IRS letters
Did you receive the Child Tax Credit recently or a third stimulus payment (a.k.a. Economic Impact Payment) last spring? If so you will receive a letter about each.
Do this to get a refund quickly
If you want your tax refund back quickly, make sure to file it file it electronically and make sure you have opted in to have the money sent to you via direct deposit straight to your bank account.
