Biden Risks Future Of U.S. Military
This is not good.
A group of Republican lawmakers are demanding President Biden to better analyze the affect his student loan forgiveness plan will have on military recruiting and how it will devalue the GI Bill.
According to The Hill, Republican Rep. Pat Fallon along with 19 other Republicans wrote a letter regarding the “unintended consequences” of President Biden’s forgiveness of up to $20,000 in student loan debt.
They want Biden to understand “the negative impact this will surely have on our nation’s military and their ability to recruit and retain” talent.
“By forgiving such a wide swath of loans for borrowers, you are removing any leverage the Department of Defense maintained as one of the fastest and easiest ways to pay for higher education,” the Republican group explained to Biden.
What’s even worse is that the Army was already not expecting to meet their active-duty recruitment goal for this year and the debt forgiveness is going to make it even worse.
“As the services try to adopt unique approaches to tackle their recruiting challenges, including historic bonuses, it feels like their legs are being cut out from underneath them,” the group explained.
